Casa Guadalupe.

Several non-profits are throwing a festival on June 11 in Allentown as a chance to celebrate the warmer weather and easing of COVID restrictions.

Listen to the story.

There will be games, arts and crafts, and performances. But the festival will also offer resources for families in need.

“We’re giving away free groceries or gift cards for the supermarket,” says Linda Vega, founder and chief executive officer of Rilyc, a non-profit that focuses on reaching youth through the arts.

Vega, who is an Allentown School Board director, says people can also sign up for free school uniforms funded by a community grant that aims to help families with back-to-school supplies.

“So while some community partners are going to be focused on the bookback drives, and the supplies and the notebooks, we thought it was extremely important to hit the uniform arena,” Vega says.

Casa Guadalupe, a social services organization in Allentown, will host the festival 2:30-6 p.m. in its parking lot, 218 N. 2nd St., Allentown.
