As of April 13, all adults across Pennsylvania are eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine, nearly a week ahead of schedule.

Listen to the story.

Acting Health Secretary Alison Beam spoke to reporters about the announcement saying April is a critical month in the pandemic.

“Starting tomorrow (April 13), all Pennsylvanians ages 16 and older will be eligible to schedule a vaccine appointment,” Beam says.

The move comes as there’s a surge in new cases across the state. Beam says providers have been reporting they have more vaccine supply than demand.

State health officials also say they will ramp up efforts to reach underserved communities including a mobile vaccine clinic.

Roughly 20% of the population is fully vaccinated. State officials have set a goal to vaccinate 80% of adults.
