President Joe Biden says he wants more ways for asylum seekers to enter the country, and to reunite families separated by Trump administration policies.

Listen to the story.

Some in Pennsylvania say he should end the policy that keeps families together but in detention.

Though Biden has issued executive orders on immigration and asylum seekers, some say he is missing a major opportunity.

Immigrant advocates are calling on the Biden Administration to end the practice of family detention and to close the Berks County Residential Center, one of the country’s three family detention facilities.

Pennsylvania Groups like CASA, Make The Road Pennsylvania and Free Migration Project of Philadelphia were joined by national groups in their cries in Washington D.C.’s Freedom Plaza.

U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) is an ally.

“I expect that we won’t have the same approach with this administration. But if they do, they’re going to hear from me,” Casey says.

Biden, however, has not stated he intends on ending the policy.
