BASD considering return to full-time school for elementary students

Elementary school students in Bethlehem may be by heading back to school full time later this spring.

Bethlehem Area School District Superintendent Joseph Roy announced the plan in a video message released Monday.

“Things are moving in the right direction with regard to COVID cases, both in our community and definitely in our school district. We have seen declines in the number of student cases and in the number of staff positive cases,” Roy says.

BASD  is currently using a hybrid model, with children attending school in person just two days per week.

Roy says one driving factor for full-time instruction is a concern for students who are struggling with online learning, and experiencing mental health symptoms.

The district is eyeing April 11 as a possible start date. And they’ve asked parents to weigh in via a survey sent out Monday.
