Joe Biden is promising a very different set of presidential priorities from the Trump administration.

U.S. Rep. Susan Wild notes that the new commander in chief has a different set of priorities, and she’s relieved that Americans will have a president and vice president who grew up without a silver spoon in their mouths.

Listen to the story.

“They grew up in working class, hard working families, very similar to the one I grew up in,” she says.

Wild’s first priority is covid vaccine distribution. Next is rebuilding the Lehigh Valley’s economy.

“I want to see job retraining opportunities for people who have lost their job, I want to see expanded affordable childcare options, and lower cost of higher education. And I don’t just mean college, I’m talking about folks who want to go to technical or trade schools,

Wild says her personal agenda includes economic relief for small restaurants.

She also wants to strengthen healthcare programs for children. And protect people with pre-existing conditions from rising health insurance premiums.

Another one of her goals is to pass legislation that will create mobile mental health units. She says mental health professionals can deal with some situations better than law enforcement.

“It would be a means to get people with training in social work, psychology and so forth, dispatched to places where there is a mental health crisis going on, not a criminal problem,” she says.
