Governor Tom Wolf is calling on Congress to pass a pandemic relief package. He and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy met Monday calling the situation in their states, “dire.”

Governor Wolf has put new restrictions on business to curb the spread of COVID-19. And he acknowledges those come with a financial toll.

“These mitigation measures target activities in order to protect lives. But they also  unfortunately put much more stress on our increasingly fragile economy.”

The Democratic governor says he is “deeply disappointed” with Congressional lawmakers, who haven’t been able to come up with a new relief package for months. Unemployment benefits are set to expire soon, as are eviction moratoriums. Wolf says without any help, next year is going to be rough.

“Our federal leaders seem to be incapable of providing Americans with the desperately needed support.”

Wolf and New Jersey Governor Murphy say Congress needs to pass a stimulus bill this week. The proposed package is about 900 billion dollars. Murphy says the total aid needs to be closer to three to four trillion.
