Pennsylvania confirmed 2,900 additional positive cases of COVID-19 Thursday, Nov. 5, continuing a spike in the pandemic. But the State is moving ahead with plans for rolling out a vaccine once it becomes available.

Listen to the story.

The new cases mark the highest daily increase since the pandemic began and over a month of consecutive thousand-plus cases reported per day. It brings the statewide total to more than 220,000.

But, Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine said Thursday that the State is actively preparing to roll out a vaccine for COVID-19, when one becomes available.

She described a three-phase distribution plan. It would prioritize first responders and medical personnel. Then the most vulnerable and those who care for them. And then the general public.

The statewide number of deaths due to COVID-19 is approaching 9,000.
