Pennsylvania health officials reported more than 13,000 new coronavirus cases on Friday and Saturday. The next update will come Monday, Nov. 23, at noon. WLVR News Director Jen Rehill has more on the latest numbers.

Listen to the story.

The state keeps breaking records for new case counts — nine times in the last two weeks — as Pennsylvania heads into a Thanksgiving holiday that has officials concerned about more community spread and warning people to stay home and celebrate with immediate family only.

One major area of concern — hospitalizations. That number jumped nearly 40% in the last week. Top health officials say if something doesn’t change, the state could run out of beds next month.

The Lehigh Valley is also seeing a big spike in cases. Lehigh and Northampton counties reported more than 850 on Friday and Saturday alone.

That brings the region’s total over 17,000 cases since the start of the pandemic.
