As Northampton polling places reached mid-afternoon of this Election Day, WLVR’s Brad Klein visited one location in Bethlehem and found things running smoothly.

Listen to the story.

Ward 6 has a dramatic polling location in Bethlehem’s City Center. Sitting outside at a folding table, and bundled against the cold were Democratic Committee members, Barbara and Steve Diamond. They say that there was a line outside when the polls opened.

“We had a problem this morning. One machine wasn’t working, and so I reported that,” said Barbara Diamond.

Someone from the board of elections fixed things, and there’s been no wait for voters since then.

“It’s a really good job. You get to meet your neighbors. It’s a long day but we like being out here and saying hello to everyone,” said Diamond.

The Diamonds pointed voters toward the door, answered questions, and assisted a disabled voter toward the wheel chair ramp. In contrast to the drama and tension surrounding the election nationwide, here it seemed like just another Election Day in Bethlehem.
