Lehigh Valley Democratic delegates celebrate final night of DNC with socially distanced watch party

Lehigh Valley delegates gathered in a backyard last night to safely watch the virtual Democratic National Convention and Joe Biden’s acceptance speech with social distancing precautions.

Instead of the balloons and bright lights, the delegates of Pennsylvania’s 7th congressional district donned masks and took in night four of the DNC on an inflatable movie screen amid the sounds of cicadas.

Bethlehem state Rep. Jeanne McNeill co-hosted the watch party for her first convention as a delegate.

“I had planned to go, like everyone else, but things are happening that we can’t do anything about, so this was the best choice.”

Former state Democratic Party Deputy Director Fadia Halma is a convention veteran. And she says this year’s virtual event was a game changer.

“I think the roll call showing the diversity of the party, and all the different beautiful places in the United States, that was a huge success. And I also think people got to really sit and really listen to what the message of the candidates were and all the speakers,” said Halma.

Among other party stalwarts in attendance… Allentown state Reps Mike Schlossberg and Peter Schweyer, and Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong.
