DACA recipients in PA and NJ share their reactions to the Supreme Court’s recent decision

In June, the Supreme Court blocked the Trump Administration from ending the deferred action for childhood arrivals program. The Supreme Court found DACA could go on…for now.

WLVR’s Chloe Nouvelle recently spoke with DACA recipients living in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Mitzi Colin-Lopez was born in Mexico but has lived in Pennsylvania for most of her life. In the fall, she’ll start her junior year at West Chester University.

“There’s literally hundreds of thousands of people that rely on DACA for their jobs, they have families here, they have careers, everything here, and that was basically on the line,” said Lopez.

Marcos Guerra is a recent graduate of the New Jersey institute of technology. He was brought to the U.S. from Guatemala as a child. He says he’s cautiously optimistic about the future of DACA.

“It’s one of those things where you feel happy for the very moment but there’s still that thought in the back of your head where there’s still that bit of uncertainty,” said Guerra.

While President Trump has said he will make a move to end DACA again, some recipients say the court’s decision still gives them hope. And they’ll continue to push for equality and justice for the community.
