The Lehigh Valley goes Green today. It’s the least strict level under the governor’s COVID-19 shutdown orders. Hair and nail salons, gyms, casinos and theaters can resume operations, with limited capacity and cleaning protocols in place.

Also allowed to reopen: Bars.

Allentown’s last remaining gay bar is Stonewall Lehigh Valley. It’s named after the New York riots of 1969 which helped spawn the gay liberation movement in the US.

WLVR’s Tyler Pratt recently spoke with Jerry Schmidt who manages Stonewall, which is reopening today, at the end of Pride Month- a celebration of the LGBTQ community. They talked about how it weathered the shutdown. And what the future of congregating over a drink may look like. As well as its importance as an LGBTQ gathering space in the Lehigh Valley.
