State lawmakers sent a bill to Gov. Tom Wolf Wednesday, June 10, requiring the Department of State to produce a report on last week’s primary.

The measure would require the DOS to finish the document before August 1, just before Republican legislative leaders expect to start deliberations over changing Pennsylvania’s election code to prepare for the November election.

But Democrats and stakeholders outside the state legislature say talks need to begin immediately. Senator Anthony Williams represents parts of Philadelphia and Delaware County.

“Why we’d wait, would be a curious consideration to any of us, other than we don’t want it to affect the November election and make sure it’s correct,” said Williams.

H-B 2502 calls for the report to include 30 data points on election procedure such as poll staffing, voter registration and various components of mailed ballot processing.

Delaware and Philadelphia are among seven counties that had an extra week to accept mail-in votes, but despite that, many thousands of ballots arrived too late in those jurisdictions and others across the state.
