Calls for reform in police departments echo across the country. The city of Allentown has begun conversations with Black Lives Matter activists who want to see increased transparency from law enforcement.

Allentown’s police chief Glenn Granitz recently spoke at length with WLVR’s Tyler Pratt about how he is addressing these demands for changes in policing. We aired part of that interview yesterday. Now we turn to a second part of the conversation about efforts to make Allentown’s police force more diverse and the national conversation about defunding police departments.

“If the narrative is that policing is going to be defunded or policing is not an honorable profession then I worry about our ability to recruit people from diverse communities and people from the city to want to take this job,” said Allentown’s chief of police Glenn Granitz.
