Dentists in Pennsylvania are now allowed to begin resuming some procedures

Dentists in Pennsylvania are now allowed to resume some more procedures. All treatments except emergency visits were previously canceled by the Department of Health due to concerns about the spread of the virus.

State Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine says quote “extreme care and caution must be used in treating patients in the dental setting” and released guidelines today for how offices may reopen.

“Providers may perform non-aerosolizing non-urgent and non-emergent care only if proper personal protective equipment per OSHA guidance – for the entire dental team,” said Levine.

OSHA is the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The Health Department’s guidelines say, for now, procedures, like many fillings, that create a visible spray with large particle droplets of water should only be performed as a last resort.
