Cases of severe strokes in COVID-19 patients have occurred all over the world

A University of Pittsburgh physician is analyzing data from dozens of medical facilities across the globe, in the hopes of understanding the neurological implications of the novel coronavirus.

Dr. Sherry Chou says there have been enough reports about large strokes in COVID-19 patients to cause concern.

“But we really don’t have a sense of the magnitude…how big a problem is this? Is this happening to every 10 people, every 20 people or even is this happening by chance?”

Chou says a lack of testing makes it difficult to determine the prevalence of strokes in COVID-19 patients. But she’ll investigate why certain patients are more likely to have strokes, and how best to treat them.
