A temporary, no-new-taxes nearly 26 billion dollar spending package headed to Governor Tom Wolf’s desk. It passed in speedy fashion barely 48 hours after its details first became public in the Republican-controlled Legislature. The main spending bill in the package won Senate approval, 44 to 6 this afternoon.

The interim budget includes full-year allocations for public schools and state-supported universities. But it funds much of the rest of the state’s operating budget lines only through the end of November.

Meanwhile, companion legislation to distribute just more than 2.5 billion dollars in federal emergency coronavirus aid has won approval in House and Senate.
