Lehigh Valley US Representative Susan Wild spoke to reporters Friday about the question on many Pennsylvanians ’ minds: How long will it take to see money from the $2 trillion-dollar federal relief package? WLVR’s Brad Klein reported on the story.

The federal relief package provides for immediate direct cash payments to low and medium-income families of $1200 per adult and $500 per child.

“These are payments that will provide people with the cash they need to survive with much of the economy currently shut down,” said Wild.

Wild says that the Department of Treasury’s first payments to about 60M people will begin in about two weeks.

“…and that will be to people who already have direct deposit set up with the IRS.”

Paper checks will begin to go out May 3, and Wild says that process will take weeks to accomplish, and that concerns her.

“I am hearing from people in the district who are wondering how to pay for groceries right now.”

Representative Wild also noted that the relief package includes funding for hospital workers and Personal Protective Equipment that is in short supply locally. She says that Lehigh Valley Health Network has furloughed some workers, and expects them to be brought back soon, as the need increases in the Lehigh Valley.
