The entire state of Pennsylvania, and nearly 13 million residents, are now under a stay-at-home order from Governor Tom Wolf.

Speaking at a virtual news conference on Wednesday, April 1, Wolf said there were nearly one-thousand new cases of coronavirus.

“This virus is spreading rapidly. It’s in every corner of our state. It’s gotten into our nursing homes and our prisons. And it’s filling up our hospital beds. Every day we wait, the virus spreads further and becomes more difficult to suppress,” said Wolf.

To that end, Wolf announced the order that state residents should not leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.

“We Pennsylvanians want to survive. And we want our friends, family and neighbors to survive. We want hospitals that aren’t overwhelmed so that everyone who needs treatment can get it.”

Wolf noted that the U.S. surgeon general had recommended the same order for the entire United States.

Most of the greater Lehigh Valley was already under stay-at-home orders when the statewide edict came down.

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania will remain under the stay at home order through April 30th.
