Local pizza shop helps fight hunger in the Lehigh Valley

As restaurants across the Lehigh Valley grapple with mandated closings of their dining rooms under order from the governor, one local business has shifted its focus to giving back to the community, Jen Rehill, WLVR News, reports.

Pat’s Pizza and Bistro in Bethlehem has a new campaign – called “Pay It Forward Bethlehem.”

Already, Pat’s has delivered free pizzas to local hospitals, and last Friday the restaurant provided 200 free lunches for students at Marvine Elementary and Nitschman Middle schools in Bethlehem.

Owner Yiannis Kyziridis says this Wednesday, they’ll be giving away 100 boxes of food to families in need from their parking lot.

“Pasta, homemade bread, eggs, sauces, we’ll have some snacks, some croissants,” said Kyziridis.

They’ve also delivered free pizzas to local hospitals, and last Friday the restaurant provided 200 free lunches for students at Marvine Elementary and Nitschmann Middle schools in Bethlehem. Kyziridis is encouraging other restaurants to do the same.

“There’s a lot of people that, they’re losing their jobs, they can’t feed their children. I mean, all that negative thing that lingers around us, I just try to make it go away. I mean, as long as I can support, I will try to support the community.”

The pantry boxes will be given out at noon at 1426 West Broad Street in Bethlehem.
